2) Doctoral Program Materials Science and Engineering: Program committee member (2005 - 2008).
3) Installation and administration of the IMX Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) Facility (since 2006).
4) Chair of the IMX Surface Analysis Facilities committee (since 2006).
5) Member of the EPFL Research Commission (2008 - 2012).
6) Director of the Section of Materials Science and Engineering (SMX) (2009 - 2012).
7) Chaired 3 faculty search committees (+ 1 starting Fall 2016).

RESEARCH INTERESTS AND COMPETENCES

Materials & synthetic strategies: Peptide/protein-based materials and peptide/protein-polymer hybrids; Surface-initiated polymerization and polymer brushes; Controlled/”living” polymerization and macromolecular engineering; Dendritic and hyperbranched polymers.

Fields of application: Polymer therapeutics/Nanomedicine; Smart hydrogels; Controlled drug delivery and release systems; Polymer surface modification; Biomaterials coatings; Protein microarrays; Biomineralization; Environmental sensors.


EXTERNAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPS
1) (Co-)organizer of > 20 workshops, conferences and symposia worldwide since 2003.
2) Board member of the Polymer Group Switzerland. (2005 - 2007). As of 08.06.2007, the Polymer Group Switzerland was terminated and merged as a new Division with the Swiss Chemical Society.
3) Board member of the Division Polymers and Colloids of the Swiss Chemical Society (since 2007).
4) Steering committee member of the European Science Foundation’s (ESF) Research Networking Programme “Experimental and theoretical design of stimuli-sensitive materials (STIPOMAT)” (2005 - 2009).
5) Steering committee member of the European Science Foundation’s (ESF) Research Networking Programme “Precision Polymer Materials” (P2M) (2011 - 2015).
6) Swiss representative at the European Polymer Federation (EPF) (since 2006).
